About Etsuko Kato

Born and raised in Japan, Etsuko moved to Utah in 2002 to attend the University of Utah after graduating from a university in Tokyo. While studying economics at the University of Utah, Etsuko took a non-major photography class, fell in love with the medium, and decided to pursue a third bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.

After obtaining her Fine Arts degree, Etsuko went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts, graduating in 2021. Since then, her work has appeared in the internationally recognized 2024 Kameyama Triennale, where she was selected as one of three show favorites.

Etsuko uses her camera as a way to find and understand herself. She also uses photography as a language through which she communicates herself and her view of the world.
